Dan A. Hughes
Dan Hughes’distinguished career in the oil and gas industry spans more than fifty years. He was named an All-American Wildcatter in 1978, awarded the Michael T. Halbouty Geosciences Medal in 1997 and given The Norman H. Foster Outstanding Explorer Award from the American Association of Petroleum Geologists in 2011.
Mr. Hughes was a graduate of Texas A&M University. He was named a Distinguished Alumnae of Texas A&M University in 2011 and continued to support the university throughout his career. He funded the restoration of the Military Walk, established two Endowed Chairs and, along with his twin brother Dudley, and son, Dan Allen, helped establish the Berg-Hughes Center for Petroleum and Sedimentary Systems.
A long-time community contributor, Mr. Hughes donated a hyperbaric chamber to Spohn Hospital in Beeville, which facilitates the advanced treatment of numerous serious illnesses. In addition, a building was donated in his behalf to the Coastal Bend College of Beeville for oil and gas training. Mr. Hughes received the Bronze Star for Valor in the Korean War and the Republic of Korea presented him with a Letter of Appreciation.
Mr. Hughes passed away on October 5, 2016.
